AL-KAFI #481: THE RULING OF EATING UNWASHED EGGS

 AlKafi 481

Question:

Assalamualaikum w.b.t,

What is the ruling of a person making roti telur (roti canai) using unwashed eggs? Is it considered as najis or not?

Answer:

Waalaikumussalam w.b.t,

Alhamdulillah, praise and thanks to Allah for the countless blessings He has blessed us all with. Blessings and salutations to the Prophet Muhammad PBUH, his wives, his family, companions and all those that follow his teachings to the day of judgement.

“The words of the author ‘that it is not wajib to wash penis after having intercourse, eggs and newly born child’ means (any stuff) that touches vaginal humidity, whether it is pure or not, and even if it is najis, it does not cause those stuff to become najis”

Refer I’anah al-Talibin (1/104)

However, if one sees najis on the egg, then he is obligated to wash it. If it is not seen or merely a perception, then it goes back to the original rule which is not najis.

The answer for the above question is its ruling is as long as there is no trace of najis like chicken faeces, then it is pure. Even if it has najis on it, what is to be eaten is its filling, not the shell. Hence, if one does not see by his own sight the najis that affects the roti canai, then it is pure like its original rule. However, washing the egg to ensure its cleanliness and purity is a good ethic in preparing food.

Wallahu a’lam.
