AL-KAFI #16: THE RULING OF REPLYING TO SALAM WHICH IS IN SONG LYRICS

al kafi 16

Question:

I want to ask on matters pertaining salam. As generally known, replying to salam is obligatory. If there is lyrics of salam in a song, is it obligatory for us to reply to them each time the salam is uttered? Are the listeners considered sinful for not replying to each salam? What if the listeners are not focused on listening to the song, hence made them fail to reply to each of them? What is the ruling of listening to such songs? What is the ruling of a person follows by singing to the rhythm? Is it obligatory to reply to the salam if the song is listened through live performance? Thank you.

Answer:

Alhamdulillah, praise and thanks to Allah for the countless blessings He has blessed us all with. Blessings and salutations to the prophet Muhammad PBUH, his family, companions and all those that follow his teachings to the day of judgement.

No. It is because the song is repetitively played. In fact, it is uttered once, but is played repetitively through cassette or CD. However, if one intends to reply to each of them, then it is not wrong to do so.
